Villa Merlata is a contemporary villa set in the olive grove countryside of Ostuni, accommodating 8 guests across 4 bedrooms, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the surrounding landscape and, on clear days, the sea in the distance. Brindisi Airport is around 30 minutes away and Bari Airport around 1 hour and 20 minutes, with the nearest beach within around 10 minutes by car and shops the same distance from the villa.
The Ostuni countryside occupies a privileged position between the Adriatic coast and the inland hill towns of the Valle d'Itria — close enough to the sea for daily beach days, whilst surrounded by the olive groves and limestone countryside that give this corner of Puglia its particular quiet. Ostuni itself, its whitewashed centro storico rising above the plain on its limestone ridge, is within around 10 minutes for an evening of wandering narrow lanes and dining on terraces with views across to the coast; Ceglie Messapica, known for its trattorias and the quality of its cucina contadina, is around 20 minutes. The trulli towns of Locorotondo and Alberobello are within around 40 minutes inland, and Polignano a Mare — balanced on its clifftop above the Adriatic — is around 45 minutes for an afternoon of cliff diving and harbourside fish.
The villa's architecture is clean and contemporary, built around a single open-plan living, dining, and kitchen space where full-height glazing dissolves the boundary between the interior and the covered veranda outside. The kitchen is fully equipped and well suited to independent cooking or private chef service — it also lends itself naturally to in-villa cooking classes exploring the ingredients and recipes of the surrounding countryside. The 4 bedrooms are each individually designed as a private space, with ensuite bathrooms and views that look out either to the garden and olive trees or towards the sea.
The infinity swimming pool — heated on request — is the centrepiece of the outdoor area, set within a sun-drenched pool patio with sunbeds and surrounded by the ancient olive grove that gives the property its sense of seclusion. A BBQ provides the setting for outdoor dining and aperitivi as the sun drops over the countryside. A private garage is available on site. Daily housekeeping, daily pool and bath towel changes, midweek linen change, welcome Apulian basket, Italian breakfast ingredients, and pool and garden maintenance are all included.
