A private island set just off the coast of Massa Lubrense within the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, Villa Isca accommodates up to 12 guests across 6 bedrooms in one of the Mediterranean's most secluded and storied locations. Accessible only by sea, the island lies approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Naples Capodichino Airport by car and private boat transfer, with Capri, Positano, and Sorrento all within 10 kilometres by water.
This 270-metre sliver of rock rising from the Tyrrhenian Sea was purchased in 1949 by Eduardo De Filippo, Italy's greatest 20th-century playwright, who built the villa as a retreat between theatrical tours and wrote many of his masterpieces here—including his celebrated Neapolitan translation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, completed just months before his death. It was on this island, too, that Eduardo first encountered Isabella Quarantotti, his future partner, when she recognised him from a passing boat bound for Positano. For decades the island remained in the De Filippo family, a place where theatre merged with solitude and the rhythms of the sea; today, following a comprehensive restoration, it offers an experience of complete privacy that few places on earth can match, suspended between the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast and the silhouette of Capri on the horizon, with the legendary Li Galli archipelago—once home to Rudolf Nureyev—visible across the water.
The villa has been designed in a refined contemporary style with subtle classical accents, defined by luminous architecture, white-painted wooden beams, and a soft, neutral palette. An open-plan layout on the ground floor integrates lounge, dining, and kitchen areas with panoramic sea views, whilst modern furnishings create a relaxed yet intentional atmosphere suited to both social gatherings and quiet retreat; a commercial-grade separate kitchen serves the chef and staff. The main villa houses 5 bedrooms across ground and lower floors, with a 6th bedroom in an independent annex, and all are equipped with air conditioning, smart television, minibar, and safe. Central heating, Wi-Fi throughout the island, and an integrated music sound system are provided.
The island's Mediterranean landscape—centuries-old olive trees, vegetable gardens, and shaded terraces—unfolds across rocky pathways and a scenic nature trail, with a complimentary cart available for moving around the property. An infinity pool measuring 46 square metres is positioned above the villa to capture the horizon, and 2 private docks offer seamless access for arrivals, departures, and coastal excursions. A traditional pergola with sweeping sea views, a pizza oven, and barbecue area complete the outdoor spaces, and a helipad provides an alternative means of arrival. All-inclusive daily continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided by a professional chef with waiter service, accompanied by a selection of wines and digestives, and a complimentary cooking class in traditional Italian dishes is included during each stay. Daily housekeeping, linen and towel changes, laundry service, and boat transfers to and from the nearest beach are provided throughout the day.
