Villa Certaldo occupies a hillside position outside San Gimignano, the medieval Tuscan town whose 13 surviving towers form one of Italy's most recognisable skylines. The villa looks directly across vineyards and olive groves towards those towers, a view best appreciated at sunset with a glass of Vernaccia—the crisp white wine produced from grapes grown on these very slopes. The property is a renovated farmhouse accommodating 12 guests, where contemporary design sits comfortably alongside traditional Tuscan elements.
Florence lies approximately 60 kilometres to the northeast, Siena 40 kilometres to the south, and both Pisa and Florence airports are within 75 minutes by car. The villa's location places guests at the heart of Chianti wine country, with private tours to celebrated estates producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano easily organised. Visits to artisanal producers of olive oil, pecorino cheese, and saffron can also be arranged. For those wishing to explore further afield, the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia—with its hilltop towns of Pienza, Montalcino, and Bagno Vignoni—lies within easy reach, as do the Tuscan beaches at Forte dei Marmi and Cecina.
Oak flooring runs throughout the interior, original wood-beamed ceilings add character to each room, and a palette of earthy tones extends from the living spaces to the surrounding landscape. The open-plan ground floor is arranged around the pleasures of shared meals, with spacious living and dining areas that receive natural light through windows framing the view of San Gimignano's towers. Sliding doors open onto terraces where long lunches stretch into the afternoon. Cooking classes and pizza-making sessions take place in the villa's kitchen.
An infinity pool occupies the garden, its edge appearing to merge with the rolling hills beyond. Pool heating is available for those visiting outside the summer months. Within the grounds, a dedicated spa provides space for relaxation: a marble-tiled hammam, solid wood sauna, emotional shower, and jacuzzi are available for exclusive use. Private massage treatments and yoga sessions on the villa's lawns can be arranged.
