Villa Ansedonia stands on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean on the southern coast of the Tuscan Maremma, with views extending across the water to the islands of the Tuscan archipelago. The 7-bedroom property accommodates up to 14 guests and features private sea access via a staircase carved into the rocks, a saltwater swimming pool, and terraces oriented towards the sunset. Rome Fiumicino Airport is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes by car, and the village of Orbetello lies 10 minutes away.
The promontory of Ansedonia sits between 2 long stretches of sand—Feniglia to the north and Tagliata to the south—where bathing establishments and beachside restaurants give way to wilder, more secluded shores backed by centuries-old pine forest. Cycling through the reserve, it is not uncommon to encounter fallow deer moving quietly among the trees. From the harbour at Porto Santo Stefano, ferries and private boats depart for the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, their crystal-clear waters drawing snorkellers and divers to the protected marine reserve. Inland, the Maremma reveals a different character: the medieval walls of Capalbio, the dramatic tuff towns of Pitigliano and Sorano perched above deep ravines, and the Etruscan necropolises of Tarquinia and Tuscania, all within reach for a day's exploration. The Burano nature reserve offers birdwatching, while closer to home, tennis, golf, horse riding, surfing, and water sports can all be arranged.
The interiors reflect the villa's position between sea and history. A collection of Roman marble fragments and 18th-century architectural elements is set into the walls and vaults of the entrance hall, living room, and terrace, lending the spaces an atmosphere of quiet grandeur. The main living area opens through large windows onto the seafront terrace, while a separate sitting room with a stone fireplace provides a more intimate retreat. A fully equipped kitchen serves the indoor dining space, and an additional lounge offers panoramic views. Air conditioning is fitted in 5 of the bedrooms as well as the living and dining areas. A private chef is available to prepare meals featuring Italian and Japanese cuisine.
A stone pathway leads through the landscaped garden to the saltwater swimming pool, surrounded by Mediterranean planting. Beside the pool, a barbecue area shaded by a palm-leaf pergola provides space for outdoor dining, while a garden patio offers shelter on windier days. The main terrace faces west, positioned for evening views as the sun drops towards the horizon. Private sea access is reached via a staircase cut into the cliff.
