Masseria Limoneto is a grand Puglian estate dating to the late 18th century, sprawling across 73 acres of ancient olive groves, lemon trees, and protected woodland in the countryside near Ostuni. The property accommodates 12 guests across 6 bedrooms and retains its original structure alongside a consecrated private chapel. A tree-lined drive leads from the entrance gate through the grounds, offering a first glimpse of the landscape that unfolds beyond.Â
From here, the whitewashed alleys of Ostuni—known as La Città Bianca—wind upward to piazzas where evening aperitivo unfolds beneath the glow of the Gothic cathedral. The Valle d'Itria stretches inland, its countryside dotted with conical trulli houses and hilltop villages where time moves slowly: Locorotondo for wine tastings in ancient cellars, Martina Franca for its baroque palazzi and summer opera festival, Cisternino for long lunches of local burrata and orecchiette in hidden courtyards. Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site, lies 45 minutes away. To the south, the baroque churches and honey-coloured limestone of Lecce reward an afternoon of wandering, whilst the coast offers mornings at private beach clubs or boat trips to hidden coves. Cooking classes with local nonnas, visits to centuries-old olive oil producers, and excursions to the ancient cave dwellings of Matera can all be arranged. Within the estate itself, pathways wind through the groves for morning walks or evening strolls in complete privacy.
The interiors possess the soul of a traditional masseria, with rooms that unfold one into another in generous proportion. A vast living room anchored by an imposing stone fireplace opens to a formal sitting room, television room, and a private studio. The dining room connects to a well-equipped kitchen and breakfast room, whilst a guest bedroom with ensuite bathroom completes the ground floor. Throughout, the design weaves classic masseria furnishings with collected Oriental pieces and decorations—an unexpected harmony that lends the spaces a layered, storied character. Upstairs, 5 spacious double bedrooms—3 with private terraces—each have beautifully appointed ensuite bathrooms. A west-facing terrace off the gallery captures sunset views across the olive groves.
The swimming pool is extraordinary in scale: a 33-by-38-metre expanse with a dark floor that holds the warmth of the Puglian sun, a gentle beach-entry ramp descending into the water, and a separate circular pool for quieter moments of repose. Beside it, a pool house contains a gym, changing facilities, and showers. Nearby, an artificial pond with a small round wooden dock offers a romantic counterpoint—a place for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine as the light fades. The outdoor kitchen, traditional pizza oven, and long dining tables sit beneath a sheltering porch, protected from wind and weather for leisurely meals that stretch from afternoon into night. The organic vegetable garden supplies the kitchen, and the estate's olive groves continue a centuries-old tradition. Indoor fireplaces warm the living spaces during cooler months.
A resident team including housekeepers, a chef, waiter, house manager, and full-time gardener provides daily service. Breakfast is served in the main house garden, lunch by the pool. Mass in the private chapel can be arranged upon request.
