Set within a beautifully restored 13th-century chapel on the Borgo Pignano estate, La Canonica offers an intimate retreat where medieval architecture and Tuscan landscape meet. Once the residence of the parish priest, the building adjoins the ancient church of San Bartolomeo, its 3 bedrooms arranged across 2 suites within walls that hold centuries of quiet history.
The estate sits within easy reach of Tuscany's principal attractions. San Gimignano and its medieval towers lie 30 minutes away, with local wineries offering tastings along the route. Colle di Val d'Elsa, known for its crystal craftsmanship, is 45 minutes by car. The beaches at Cecina can be reached in an hour, as can the Castelfalfi Golf Club. Siena and Florence are both approximately 90 minutes' drive. Within the Borgo Pignano estate itself, guests have access to an infinity pool, organic farm walks, horseback riding, painting lessons, wellness treatments, and cooking classes.
The interior preserves the building's original character—weathered medieval stonework, graceful archways and columns, vaulted ceilings, warm terracotta floors, and frescoes restored to their former detail. The entrance hall leads to a refined sitting room, whilst the medieval kitchen with its refectory table remains the natural gathering point for meals. Upstairs, the Pievano Suite contains a king bedroom, living room, and ensuite bathroom with freestanding bathtub and shower. The San Bartolomeo Suite offers 2 bedrooms—one queen, one double or twin—alongside a living room and ensuite bathroom, also with shower and freestanding bathtub.
Outside, a private courtyard provides space for al fresco dining, with a terrace connecting to the main villa and the tranquil surroundings of the estate beyond.
